
Arc de Triomphe
Napoleon after his victory in Battle of Austerlitz in 1805 promised his men "You shal go home beneath triumphal arches. The first stone was laid the next year in what was to become the world's most famous triumphal arch. It was completed in 1836 an is now the customary starting point for victory celebrations and parades.
