"El Gato Grande" of Panther Cave
El Gato Grande is the largest of 8 or 9 different felines that give this shelter its name. He is 9 feet long from tail to outstretched front legs and he is the guardian of the shelter. It can easily be seen from across the canyon from Mexico (when trees were absent from the entrance). Just below the panther is the "Black Bird Anthropomorph" to be seen in next photograh. The white area on the front paw is destroyed from the water and increased humidity from damming up the Rio Grande. In the years to come only photographic representation of the ancient pictographs like the ones I have captured will be left for us to see.
