Flowering Sago Palm
This unique plant is a "living fossil" that resembles a palm but is acturlly a cycad. The date back to the Mesozoic era when they dominated their terrain over 150 million years ago. The shiny dark-green crown of leaves grows symmetrically on a thick shaggy trunk. They are short with a maximum height of about 10 feet. They very rarely if ever bloom and I was lucky to find this one blooming in front of my office this morning so took some time away from patients to make a few captures. I positoned it off center and to the right and shot in the vertical on purpose. Raw F/10, 1/250 sec at 47mm with 5D 24-105 L lens on tripod with remote controller. Very little if any croping and usual processing in Aperture. Placed in flowers.
